Re: "Don't ask don't tell" policy in the military.

I did 10 years and 9 months in the US Navy and some other, moderately hardcore stuff before that. I'm not a big fan of the extreme alternative lifestyle crowd that wants to ram their version of society down everyone else's throats. I knew some gay people in the military - mostly they shut up and did their jobs and were decent people who didn't cause trouble. I know some gay people here in San Diego and mostly they're ok, and one or two of them are actually pretty cool.

I DON'T WANT TO GO OFF ON A RANT HERE, but you'd have to be deaf and blind and stupid and dumb not to see which way the wind is blowing on this gays in the military thing. You're discriminating against people based on their private, personal choices. A majority of the civilian public thinks the policy should go away. I'm more of a Republican than a Democrat, but President Obama should issue an executive order or some such directing the military to stop enforcing the policy until the civilian political leadership can get its collective heads out of their asses and figure out what type of policy is appropriate for this country at this time.

If you want to be gay that's your business, not mine. What you do in the privacy of your own home or local bar/club or local church or local mosque or temple means nothing whatsoever to me, as long as it's between consenting adults and you're not preaching hate and murder I really don't care. Mess with a kid or a dog, however, and I'm calling Base Security.

If you want to be gay and serve in the military that's fine with me, too. Don't rock the boat. Don't cause trouble. Don't try to change people's minds about it. Just do your job and do it well and SHUT UP. There's only one way to get respect - you earn it. Just like women in the workplace had to do. Just like Black and Hispanic Americans had to do back in the day. You do a better job than the bigoted, Bible-thumping idiot and your supervisor will tell him to go suck a big fat one when he complains about what you did last weekend. The other Bible-thumper who's actually a nice, tolerant, accepting fella will reach out to you in the spirit of Jesus Christ that humble dude who washed the prostitute's feet. That said, it is discrimination and it's costing our country's military some qualified people doing jobs that need to be done - interpreters, especially apparently - we lost a bunch of them to this stupid crap. Leave your religion out of this. Leave your bigotry out of this.

Leave your "oh hey he's defending gays, he must be gay LOL" out of this. Bugger off, nitwit. Not you (the smart, tolerant, non-idiot person) - that was meant for the people who like to criticize anything they see on the internet, who like their anonymity and hide on 4chan or YouTube or wherever. If you want to be religious and have something against gay people due to that religious stuff of yours, that's your problem. Be polite and tolerant about how other people want to live their lives and in return for that we won't call you an idiot or a Bible-thumping Jesusfreak or laugh in your face.

If you're an ultra-liberal or gay activist and desperately want to change this policy - relax, no need to get your panties all in a twist. It will go away. Some people will get caught up in the mess in the meantime due to that whole US Congress policy elected legislature making laws and stuff ...thing.

Yeah, sorry about that. There's this little thing about two wars going on, you might have heard of them - Iraqistan or Afghan or something. Innocent people get hurt every day. Cry me a river. The military is not your personal social theory experimentation sandbox. We are not a petri dish for you to drop solutions in to see what happens. The military is an organization that's built for one purpose and one purpose only: WAR. Killing people. Making sure US civilians don't get killed. Protecting your commercial interests that you don't even realize you have. You like driving your car? Yeah, me too. I like having cheap gas. I like the effects of a well-functioning global economic trading environment. The US military is the main guarantor of that, like it or not. Would you prefer the Russian or the Chinese military?

No, I didn't think so.

"We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to do violence on our behalf."

Remember that next time you want to turn the US Marine Corps into a frickin' San Francisco hippie love fest. Now shut up, join up, serve your time for a minimum of three years, walk a post with a rifle in the night and maybe I'll consider you fit to have an opinion on this. If you've never stood an armed watch on a mountaintop at night then just be quiet. You shouldn't even have a right to vote without having done some sort of public service, be that military or fire/rescue or medical or educational or something similar as a public service for a year or two. But that's just my opinion, I realize I'm in the minority on that and it won't fly in a million years so I'll shut up about it. I'll let you have your opinion if you let me have mine on that one.

"I disagree with what you say, but I'll fight to the death to defend your right to say it."

Feel free to mouth off about things you don't know anything about, just realize that those of us who DO know something about it won't be very inclined to listen to you or care what you say, unless you do have that military/police background. In which case I might actually listen for a minute.

Oh, and people are gonna get hurt. Some dude will come out to his platoon and they'll be cool with it. Then he'll move to his next duty station and get his ass killed in a blanket party/smear the queer incident. Oh well. Know who you mess with when you try to change society and people who are trained to kill, not trained to play nice with hippie scum. The murderers will get caught and it'll blow up big in the media and twenty years from now it'll all be fine. Relax, something like 60,000 people die every day. Keep things in perspective. This gay thing will solve its gay self eventually, just keep your gay heads down til then and don't try to be a gay hero and just do your gay job the best you gay can. Then mo-fos like me in the business will be like, "I want that guy on my team, he knows the system the best and that means we get done with the job better and faster and we'll get off work sooner and there'll be less trouble". And if someone messes with the guy who gets me away from work earlier, they've got another thing coming. Something hard and not soft - like a crowbar or a BFR or something. That's a Big F***ing Wrench if you didn't know.

Just don't be gay about it. Like really gay - Perez Hilton gay - that's a bit too much. People like that just need to go away, on general principle. Stay in SanFran please. You guys can have gays in the military if you just promise to keep Perez Hilton in SanFran.

If you think it's funny that some gay sailor got stomped to death in a bathroom in a Sasebo bathroom, think again. If you're gay and you think it's funny that RM3 Schindler made a personal prank announcement "2-Q-T-2-B-S-T-R-8” (too cute to be straight) on secure radio lines reaching much of the (very large) US Pacific Fleet, think again.
