Nuclear weapons in the Middle East.

Time to get Israel in on the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Get this stuff above board and as transparent as possible. Otherwise the efforts to de-fang Iran will just be even more hypocritical than they already are (not that I want nukes in the hands of Führer Ahmedinejad.

Jimmy Carter is wrong about a lot of things, but not about this:

"One of the greatest human rights crimes on earth is the starvation and imprisonment of 1.6m Palestinians," he said.
The former US president cited statistics which he said showed the nutritional intake of some Palestinian children was below that of children in Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as saying the European position on Israel could be best described as "supine"
And as always, it is necessary to inject here the standard paragraph that I support Israel in its struggle against terrorism, anti-Semitism, the corrupt dictatorships that surrounds it etc etc. I do not support their right to keep secret nuclear arms or to settle their civilians and religious nutcases in occupied territories. The Jewish Holocaust during WWII was a terrible thing, but it's high time Israel and its diaspora stopped using that as an excuse to keep the Palestinians under lock and key in the Gaza City ghetto etc. That said I'm fairly okay with it being open season on Hamas - but I also understand how a people living under occupation and repression for fifty years is gonna do whatever it can to strike back at its oppressors.
